Snipey was found by a group of climbers at the Beaver Creek Campground near Mount Saint Helens in Washington, on May 27, 2012. He was nestled into a hole in a tree with his gun pointed straight at the unassuming climbers. The climbers, realizing he meant no harm, immediately took a liking to him, promising to take him with them to the summit of Saint Helens the next day.
When the 5 AM wake up call the next morning led the climbers to forget Snipey in the tree and climb Saint Helens without him, he would not be forgotten again. Sherrie adopted him and promised to take him on her adventures. Since late May, Snipey has seen the top of Mount Earl, in Washington, and traveled with her to Montreal, New York City, Boston, Jersey City, and Stamford, CT for work. He's probably already more well traveled already than most other Americans.
